Chronic (Refractory) Osteomyelitis is a condition where treatment with surgery and antibiotics is enhanced by hyperbaric oxygen. Results reported have been encouraging and thus, this condition is an approved indication for hyperbaric oxygen therapy. During HBOT, increased amount of oxygen that becomes available for white blood cells, osteoclasts and fibroblasts results in infection control, bone remodeling and sufficient healing. Hyperbaric Oxygen acts as an important adjunct, supplementing appropriate antibiotic treatment and possible surgery.
